After lurking for over a year, I finally started posting today and wanted to quickly introduce myself. Avid life-long firearms guy, I grew up hunting in a rural area of Monterey county, but school, marriage, work, and kids pushed hunting aside for too many years. Then in 2015, I decided to get my 15-year old son licensed to hunt and into the sport, since he was taking an interest in firearms and we were already avid campers/hikers.
Fast forward a couple years and we now spend as much time in the field together as we can, both locally (Santa Barbara/Ventura/Ojai) and around the state (Mojave, Carrizo, etc). We've done a lot of scouting trips in the off seasons, and on hunting trips he's proven himself an able companion and one that doesn't balk at a 15-mile day in the heat or cold (which makes his Dad proud). He hasn't joined me on a deer hunt yet (high school, band practice, and girlfriends seem to get in the way...), but we're hopefully going to do one next season (I usually do muzzle loader, but we may do both next season). We're also looking to do a guided pig hunt; I almost had one lined up last summer with Shay out of King City, but his neck/back issue took him out of the game, so I'm looking for another guide for a late winter/early spring hunt this year if I can find someone.
Anyway, if there's any other Father/son teams out there in the Central Coast that might be interested meeting, let me know. I'm also an avid spear fisherman, spend time in Baja (mostly Cortez side), and have a Parker that we fish/dive the Channel Islands on.
