Hi all, great website with lots of info and what appear to be respectful succesfull hunters. I live in stockton, CA and usually hunt at some private property i have permission to. I find lots of quail, Pheasant, Dove, Ground squirrels and Coyote out there. IN fact last year i found 4 feral pigs there. Funny thing is that it was within tracy/stockton area! Oh yeah we have water fowl there too!

As far as hogs go, i have bagged 3 total hogs 2 boars (140-170#) and 1 sow (250#), all by firearm

, but i really really want to start with archery this year. So any one have some tips, ideas, links, or suggestions maybe even some hunt for hunt trading? I recently talked to Ranger Joel, from Sonoma and i plan on heading out there to possibly meet some more experienced archers who dont mind a FNG around.

My current lender bow is a high counry trophy compound i dont know the length of draw or the # of draw, but i was recently looking into a used 28"draw 60# weight martin fury. I have a wingspan of 71" and 27" from chest to fingers. I have rather wide chest(shoulder to shoulder) and am only about 5'9". Based on some charts they said betweeen 27.5" to 29" draw lenth. any suggestions.

I would tell you to go to the nearest proshop and have yourself measured and try some of there bows. You dont want to get started on the wrong foot and get some bad habbits fhat you cant get red of. Good luck and welcome.

welcome to JHO PC, you have to take that bow to the closest pro shop and get measured and fitted properly for your draw length and draw weight first to make sure that bow will fit your specs, their are a few important variables when it comes down to the proper bow fit. i am sure their are some members on here that can tell you where a good pro shop is close to you. good luck in your new adventure even though you are an

Welcome aboard, PorkChopper!

Sounds like you've already got a leg up on the hog hunting (saw your post in "Where are you from"). Settle in, enjoy the campfire, and tell some tales.

Glad to have you with us.

Welcome, this is a great site with alot of helpful info. I am originally from Stockton. We moved here to Susanville when I was 12 and all of my familly is still in Stockton. Is that a High Country Trophey Hunter that you shoot? Those are nice bows I have one that I want to get the cable fixed on it. Any way when I used to live in Stockton we used to go to Coalinga alot to hunt. That was on private property but I was told there is alot of public land down there where pigs can be found. Also there is a little public property over by Lake Berryessa and there is supposed to be pigs there. We saw some tracks one time but no pigs. There is a big piece of public property there but it is almost all land locked. Looks like I will be at lake Sonoma this year as well.

Take care and good luck.
