I like the gun and its ability to provide fast & accurate follow up shots. However, the concern I have with semi-auto hunting rifles is chambering that 1st round.

A few times at Tejon, we have spotted pigs from the truck and had to exit the truck QUIETLY to not spook the pigs while getting into position. I don't know how you can chamber a round in a semi-auto without hearing the loud sound of the bolt slamming home. If you ride the bolt home to make it more quiet, you risk not getting the rifle into full battery. I have only seen this problem once while hunting with someone who had a BAR. Other than that, it is a cool rifle.

Some post this is. After reading this post, I checked out the site and was quite moved and wanted to get one although I already have a BAR 7mm. Coincidently, my dad called me the next day asking me about Benellis. He's an avid hunter like myself, but has a limited understanding of English. While watching the hunting/outdoors channel, he constantly saw gun commercials, particulary Benelli commercials. He asked me if Benellis are good guns. And so, I explained to him all there was to explain about the R1. To my amazement, he went out the following day and grabbed, well reserved, himself one. And to finish the deal, he topped it off with one of the new Leupold VX-L 4.5-14X50. I'm so jealous!

Then again, it's only my dad, so what's his is partially mine.

I went away for the weekend and within an hour I had to open up the gun safe to take another look at the rifle, that's how much I like it.
Hogfest.. Your dad will be a happy camper and I have a feeling if you get a chance to shoot the rifle it wont be long before you pick one up for yourself.

The logic I used to spend $2000 on the new gun was my birthday but if it wasn't my birthday I would have come up with something different.
Now all I need is a new knive, I mean.... how could a man possibly have a new gun without a new knive... right?

Ironworker you better be careful when you're out in the feild with that new rifle....................and new knife...............................you might slip...............unless you got new boots!...............................How could anyone get a new rifle like that without a new Knife and new Boots, I'm sure they gave you a Benelli Hat.................................................
