Howdy All,

I am a bird hunter but I have a question for you serious elk hunters, my sister in law wants to buy my brother an elk hunt for his birthday. The new Mexico outfitter had a cancellation and they are offering a trophy elk hunt, muzzle loader, guided six day hunt, horses for $7500 including license fee. Based on my reading this seems about right, can you guys advise if this is a fair price. She asked me for advice on this.

I appreciate any input,
Mario

Depends on what unit, what his usual success rate is and what size class bulls are typical. If he's a good outfitter with a decent success rate on good bulls then yeah its a good price. If its in a unit that is poor during the muzz season or the outfitter is known to put his hunters on the first small bull he sees then it might be an expensive hunting trip.

For that amount of money you should expect a fully guided hunt in a premium area. Cow tags are around $500 and bull tags are in the guides judgment.
You can buy a hunt based on size of bull desired, less for 300 range and a lot more for book class bulls.
We have ranches out here selling tule elk bull hunts for $12,000 and up...

According to my research the Outfitter is highly rated in all regards so it should be a good trophy experience.
