New Mexico Governor's Elk Tag

The lucky winner of the New Mexico Governor's Elk tag has decided to sell it to the highest bidder this year. The person who won it at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation banquet is the wife of one of my best friends. For those of you not familiar with this tag, it allows the person with the tag to hunt any elk unit in the state during any and all open elk hunts and use any weapon that the person wishes to use. This means that the person who uses this tag could hunt in one or all of the impossible areas to draw in the state during the bowhunt (rut) with a rifle. There are units in New Mexico that are of extreme high quality with only a couple of tags issued on a drawing each year. The person could hunt during all of those hunts as well. It's the best of the best!

Well, the tag has been sold now. I was asked by the seller not to publicize the amount. It went for a lot less than I would have thought. I would have sold it as well. I look at it this way. The winner of the tag is just like me. Working class. A big Elk would be fantastic, but that tag was worth a lot of cash to a lot of people. This way, the winner got the cash and was able to make a difference it her lifestyle. It was a win-win situation.
