Well I picked up a new CZ550 Safari Magnum rifle today in .375 H&H Magnum. They had the .458 Win Mag but I thought the .375 was enough for me. Sweet looking gun, now looking at a Zeiss Conquest scope to put on it. Cant wait to shoot it!

Okay guys - just did my first safari this month. I would really like to go back for Cape Buffalo. Would you guys use a .375 H&H for that, or is it to small?

Obviously, Bigswad, you would recommend the CZ. Any other makes/models that you considered? Anyone else?

Go to http://www.garrettcartridges.com and read about the hunter from Tampa,FL who used a 45-70 Marlin that had custom modifications for all of the major animals in Afica:elephant, hippo, cape buffalo, lion ,etc

The Majority of my hunters have used a 375HH with 300 grain premium bullets, after then the 416 Of one cartridge or another. Then some of the Metric 9.3's

I have had a few with some more exotic cartridges and a couple double users.

Anyone can spend the money and use a handgun, bow, or 45/70 if that's your desire and you can afford that choice then good for you. However when spending more then 10k on a hunt most folks want to have something in their hands that is proven over many years and known to work consistantly.

If you're into the novelty or "stunt" hunting it's fine by me it's your money!

Yes we are looking at loads for the Barnes TSX bullet of 270 grains. We also have a load for the 300 grain. I think since we are doing the plains game this time, we will stick to the 270 grains and then go solid if I should ever get the chance.

Well I finally got the Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40 mounted with Talley quick release mounts. Took it out to the range and ran some Barnes 270 grain Triple shocks thru it loaded in front of 78grains of H414 and crimped the bullets in. At 100 yards, I was grouping at probably less than one inch. I was amazed at the accuracy of that big caliber at that distance.

The CZ Safari Magnum (Old BRNO 602) is a nice shooting gun and shoots as well as my buddies custom Remington does, but was about $600 cheaper. Also, the magazine area on my CZ is bigger than his so my bullets have room to adjust for length. I really like the CZ and would definetely recommend it. The trigger is really nice as well. It comes with a set trigger if you like, but I dont use it. The normal trigger pull feels good and is very smooth. We have loaded up some Barnes 270 grain solids to see how they shoot.

I have a couple of CZ 550's now, I reviewed the last one I got on:
http://www.jesseshunting.com/site/iframe.h...ost%2Findex.php

and the more I use them the more I get to like them and I still have to find a rifle, where I feel you get as much for the money.
Sure, there are nicer rifles, but the BRNO 602's and the CZ 550's have been tested by a lot of people in many places of the world, and I still have to hear something really negative about them - my 30.06 has surely been reliably as few.

I still have to see what happens, when you shoot something with the 9.3x62mm - a little less oomph than the 375HH, but a much lighter rifle.
