Some elk from the Oregon Coast. I saw these guys in one of my lower pastures not too long ago. Boy, I can hardly wait for hunting season!

Good Morning everyone,
This looks like a really neat forum!
I live up the Yachats River, about 11 miles from town. Quite a nice little valley the Yachats is!
Anyway, your more then welcome to come and harvast one of the cows. There hasn't been a whole lot of bowhunting pressure yet this year. Some, but not much.

I'm really looking forward to my hunt. I'm hunting the general season this year with my T/C handgun. I have a new cal. I'd like to try out. And one of these bulls would really be nice to try it out on!!

Welcome to Jesses, Mranch. I wish I could look out my window and see elk like you can! I'd need keen X-ray vision to see wild elk from my place. Hopefully my trip to Montana this year will everything I hope for.

I just love this little valley I live in!! Lots of Elk!!
I'm hoping to score again this year with my Contender, Last year I used a .357 Herrett in the late cow season and got a nice yearling cow, This year will be a .308 Bellm and hopefully one of the above Bulls!

Wonderful pictures, I need to get a good zoom camera for my hunt here in The Gorge. I have a herd that I watch all year in an orchard. I am also hoping to try a new barrel for Elk this year. I have talked to Mike Bellm quite a bit about it, and I actually might have him re-cut the chamber. I got it from a guy on www.graybeardoutdoors.com It is a re-cut 35 Remington, but someone cut it to .356 Winchester, not supposed to chamber this round for Contender because someone could use factory ammo that is too hot, which is exactly what the guy was doing. I am still experimenting with it, should be able to use load data for 358 Bellm, but I havent gotten the right bullets yet. So far I have only used 147 gr. 9mm hollow points. (.355, that's all I had laying around) I used 36 grs. of 4198, which should give me about 2300fps. About the same as your Herret, and I am sure you know what that will do. Yee-ha. I went up to sight in the scope, and I couldnt see between shots because the dirt between me and the target was jumping into the air and making a cloud. Regards, Robert in Hood River

Robert,
I also talked with Mike alot. He is very knowledgable when it comes to contenders. MY .308 Bellm is a rechambered Super 14 30/30 Barrel. I had Mike do his Crown and fire lap the bore also. Then one of his oversized hinge pins and a trigger job. Boy what a good shooter!! I had a Jim Henry, a gunsmith down in Barstow do the trigger job. He does wonders with T/C's
Have you checked out Mikes web site? Lots of good info!

The camera I use is a Olympus C-700 Ultra Zoom. It does a pretty good job most of the time.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful picture. Isnt heaven a great place to live and hunt?
Hey what was the total cost for Mike's re-chamber? I have a Super 14 30-30, havent shot it for more than a year since I got my 7mmTCU. It would probably be a lot more useful as a .308 Bellm, especially since my 7 TCU will do pretty much anything the 30-30 will do. Actally the 7mm will do more...way better ballistics for longer range shooting.

Robert, I believe the rechamber itself was only $69.00. But with the Firelap and the Crown and 2 oversized hinge pins the total was $159.00. I am more then pleased with the performance of the .308 Bellm. It is really fun to shoot, and shoot it does. I'm getting about 1" groups at .75 yards. Sometimes alittle better then that. I think the new hinge pin is a plus also!! It takes up even the smallest amount of play between the barrel and the frame. I'm heading over to the Upper Deshutes Unit at the end of this month for a mule deer hunt. This will be the first time Hunting with the .308 Bellm. I'm using Hornady's 130gr.SSP Bullets at about 2400fps. I usually limit myself to about 100 yard while hunting with a handgun, I hope to find a mulie within my limits!!!
Then I'll see what the Belllm will do on Elk!!!

I think Mike may have raised his price's alittle bit, but not to much. He is also working on an inventory of barrels right now and will not be doing any rechambers for awhile. It would be best to talk to him though if your at all interested in a rechamber.
Have you done a trigger job on your T/C yet? It makes all the difference in the world. I had my trigger pull set at 16oz. on the frame I hunt with and about 13oz on the frame I shoot targets with. I feel a trigger job is a must on the Contender, It will help your shooting alot!!!
Enough rambling on and on! It's bed time!
