Hello everyone,

I LOVE this site !!! I have been looking on here for about 2yrs. I tried to hunt Laguna with no sucess ( saw lots of sings ) but we did not get anything. I am debating going on a guided hunt but I am flat broke like everyone else. I was thinking about trying FHL. I went there last year but could not hunt (did not know you needed a permit). Anyone want to teach or let me tag along on your hunt and learn and watch ( I dont even have to hunt). I am safe with firearms. I work on an ambulance so if anything happened I am a good person to have around. I am in my 30's so you will not have to worry about me acting stupid and young. Thanks again for everyones great post, I love to day dream and see you stories and hogs.

PS: I am located in Livermore and have a big 4door F350 and I am willing to drive, pay for gas, and lodging :) Thank you for taking the time to read this :not-worthy:

good first start.

here is my strategy. i keep an eye out for some of the more affordable group hunts here on the forum. some real talented hunters go, and hopefully i can glean some good info from them in the process. i get face time meeting new friends, and i get to hunt. win-win situation.

lake sonoma is beautiful. pigs are challenging. i just met the area's rookie of the year. he is a relatively silent member here, and he slays them. he was nice enough to show me some of the ropes. next year is MY year! good luck!

hoping i can conjure up a sorethroat so i can ditch work early tomorrow for an evening look around. ;)

rbrown, there's a JHO hunt at Tejon Ranch on May 22-25. Details on how to get on the hunt are at the top of the Hog Forum. Read carefully, and if you're interested, send your info.

For $450, it's about as cheap as you'll get for a real, quality hunt. In addition, the JHO crew is there with lots of experience.

There's also Deedy's place, Bryson Hesperia Resorts. Her unguided, day-hunts are a pretty sweet deal... especially for the budget conscious hunter.

Of course, if that's too pricey (things are tough all over, I know), then you're off to a good start offering to pay gas and provide transport if someone will take you. My dance card is pretty well packed this year, or I'd be glad to bring you out on one of the Golden Ram properties.

FHL and Camp Roberts (when it's open) are probably your best bets for public land hogs, at least with the rifle. Bowhunters are loving Lake Sonoma.

Rbrown,

I feel your pain.. Im pretty new to hog hunting myself. This past weekend I went to Laguna Mountain and saw lots of sign, but no hog in sight.

I never been to FHL I need to send in my application and get a permit I guess ASAP. To be honest, public land hunting is really tough, close to impossible some say but that is up to you. I too believe going on a "guided hunt" is the best start off for novice hunters like you and me, but as everyone mentioned times are tough.

Anyways, long story short you are already on the right path, save up some money and go on a guided hunt or the JHO Tejon Hunt but till then Im just going on my own and learning as I meet other hunters in the area asking them questions and stuff.

The members here are MORE THAN HELPFUL to say the least, you can ask them alot of questions and get good honest opinions/answers. So ask away.

Good luck to you and to the rest !!!!!!!!!:patiotic-wavin-flag:welcome sign:
