I have a few question and would like your help. I am new to hunting in California, and I am really excited about the year round hunting of hogs. I want to know if I can hunt hogs with my bow year round and if I can carry a side arm while doing so? Also has anybody ever hunted in the Azusa canyon, and what did you hunt?

Welcome to JHP frehole. You can buy pig tags in books of 5 for about $9 per book. The season is year round with no bag limit and no possession limit. Rifle, archery and handguns are legal methods of take. Some areas are archery, shotgun and muzzleloader only. The two best areas for pigs are either at Tejon Ranch($310 for and unguided hunt) or up around the central coast area(Camp Roberts or Fort Hunter Liggett). I don't know anything about azusa canyon.

Welcome to JHO, you will find this website to be one of the best on the net. You can bow hunt hogs with your bow year round. In the state of california, you cannot carry a sidearm while bowhunting. As far as Azusa Canyon goes I have only been up there once. We backpacked in there for an overnight trip. We didnt see anything worth talking about, but I here the deer hunting up there is not to bad. Hope this helps and again, Welcome

Actually, you can carry any legal firearm you want while bowhunting hogs, except in Archery-only areas. In other words, if you wanna carry your bow in one hand, and a 30-06 in the other, it's legal.
The prohibition on sidearms while bowhunting is only when you are hunting deer or elk under an archery-only tag.
To repeat... It's definitely OK to carry a sidearm while bowhunting (in areas where sidearms are legal).
