New to hunting

Im new to hunting i was wondering about any hunting spots in southern california for jack rabbits and coyotes I’ve searched and found a couple one in barstow but i was wondering if you could hunt off templin highway and old ridge route just want to make sure before i head on out!

If you take Templin Hwy off the I5 north of Castaic Lake and go east to Warm Springs Road/Fish Cyn. I think it is Forest Route 6N32. It’s blocked off to auto traffic with large concrete barriers. You can walk that, dirt road, and hunt Jack Rabbits. There usually are hikers on it. Not a lot of JR but I would see them riding my ATV out there years ago. You can access the same road off of Lake Hughes Road and go west. Walk in only. It’s usually very dry, hot, and you can hike a long way. Bring plenty of water, stay on the road and don’t overdo it until you get used to hiking. I think you can only use a shotgun to hunt rabbits there.

Thanks for the reply! I’ll be checking that area out first. Since you said its shotgun only im guessing i cant take my air rifle out in that area?

Check with the F&G, forest service or BLM for that area, you can hunt them in any of the Nat Forest& BLM areas. get some maps of the areas and maybe onX or another mapping program on your phone and home computer.

Thanks! I have OnX and huntwise i found a couple spots i might go and scout i might also check out big bear to see if i can find any areas to hunt
