Take a look at the CR Hunt thread here in the hog forum, it looks like a few people are heading over there this weekend. They're running 1 hunt this weekend, 2 in November and a few in December. Hunting public lands, this and Fort Hunter Ligett will be your best bet for success. Here's a link to Camp Roberts hunting information.

I have a co-worker who is in the marine reserves and at night he saw a lot of hogs at Ft. Hunter Ligget at night while wearing IR googles. Per 3 game wardens I met in SLO Camp Roberts has some of the best public land hunting in Cal.

Bad news about Cal hog hunting you can't hunt at night and you can't use bait. Good news you can in Texas and they have a lot more hogs and access to private land . Cal Fish and Game has a booklet you can download for free on pig hunting. The bad news at Ft.HL and else where is pigs have been hunted for a long time and especialy on public land they don't let the sun touch their backs. Having said that you can bag pigs in Cal and you can use dogs or hire someone who does keeping in mind pigs can and will kill or injure dogs. Pigs are a very worthy game animal and they tast great in a goulash because they are very lean.

Good Luck;

Thanks for the heads up Lefty. Yeah I heard there are a lot of pigs in that area, I used to live in paso. A guy I knew in highschool his family had a ranch with pigs and they had a lot of problems with interbreading with the feral pigs so they would always go on night hunts with spotlights and blast pigs. But at that time I wasnt hunting.Wish I still talked to that guy.

The landowner probably has a "depredation permit" from the DFG. That would allow night hunts and spotlights as I seem to remember from the DFG rules. 'Nuff said.
