Found a new spot, on public land, in Southern CA. Set up a few trail cameras and eventually got some hog pictures. Hiked out one day and saw two BIG pigs at 2:00 in the afternoon (!), of course my bow was in my truck. Started seriously hunting the area about two weeks ago, had a couple of weeks off so I hunted for eight straight days and whacked a nice sow on New Year's day (missed a good football game, but scored a respectable meat hog). Still hunted in an area with tons of sign, she came in at around 4:00pm, winded me, grunted and bolted. She came back about twenty minutes later and I made fairly quick, off-hand shot at 15 yards, with a hard quartering away angle (had to take the shot before she winded me again). She headed for the thick stuff and made it only about thirty yards. She probably didn't make the 150 lb. mark, but came close......and my back feels like she was a lot heavier (as usual, the pack out was brutal). Nice way to start the New Year!
