The speaker at the orientation last week mentioned shooting times are 1 hr. before and 1 hr. after sunrise and sunset. Is this correct or a mistake on the speakers part? Sunset on Saturday was 4:43, at 5:43 it was pretty dark.

That's what I thought. Did anyone else hear this or was it just me?

I have always gone with that 1/2 hour mark, which I believe is legally correct.

I agree with the 1/2 hour before and after. You can go to the DFG website and search the regs there if you want to confirm it for yourself. Personally, even if it is within legal shooting time but I don't feel comfortable with the amount of light to make a clean shot I will pass, but that's JMO.

i thought tejon made their owen rules though?[/b]
Tejon doesn't make their own rules in violation of DFG laws and regs. They set their own seasons on certain game, and manage their own populations and habitat, but they are still subject to most of the same laws as any other landowner.
