With FHL apparently open just around the corner I was wondering if anyone has any new info on the gun registration process at FHL? Seemed pretty straight forward but since we cannot take the guns on base before registration I was wondering what the strategy will be? I would really like to avoid a drive down there just to register my rifle. Maybe with some input they will let us have our rifle with us in the car but just have to register the day we hunt since there are some who live a little further out and can't pull a day trip to register. Thanks!

I will be hopefully jumping through this latest hoop next friday or the friday after though my turkey plans at FHL are pretty much already shot, I'll let you know how it goes. The plan is a seperate trip unfortunately. Looks like the police building is only open mon-fri.

I read about this new hoop. I guess I will have to drag my brother to Vandenburg as the only reason I hunt FHL was it was smack in the middle for the two of us. I assume base commanders must have changed over.

I am set to go up FHL this friday, I got a room at gibb hall for two nights. those are selling out fast.
for anyone not going...I will let you know just what the gun reg. process is after I go thru it.
friday morning to register weapons and friday afternoon to pre register the weekend hunt.
hopefully harvest a pig by sunday morning and turkey hunt another spot (public land) on the way home.
even if that goes into monday. thats the plan anyway. let see how well this one sticks .

I called the base on reg. you CAN mail in registeration with copy of drivers licence. they need the original copy (signed) form.
it's a 10+ day turn around. No guns on base period...unless registered. for me it's to late. I'm going in !!
The Plan: go to campground, two people, one stays with guns, one goes in, registers
and repeat. this will take some time to do.

I need to figure this out then. I wanted to go then was bummed when they closed for a bit but now this extra hoop is kind of a pain. I may just stay a night in a motel in King City leave my rifle and check in Friday and get sorted out. For the campground fee, does that need to be a money order also or can I pay cash for that?

Except the campground is inside FHL. You need to register before bringing them to the campground.

Any idea what the correct address is for getting the form to the right folks?

Thats good to know. Looks like i'll be going that route if I can avoid a trip down there just to register.

You can pay cash for the campground. Honor system where you just drop the cash in an envelope and put it inside the slot on the post.

It's outside the guard gate. That, I would think is acceptable. If it's not I am sure someone will come and arrest my buddy while i am in registering. :bag-on-head:

Yes but it is inside the main gate. Why not just have one person wait at the parking right by the main gate? And yeah I agree this whole thing is ridiculous.

Watch them update the site with archery and shotgun only. If I am going down there I was just thinking getting a motel for Friday night to store my guns in the morning and then register Friday. How busy do you guys reckon it will be? Definitely not a good weekend to get shot at but I haven't read any horror stories about people being shot at at FHL so I guess I shouldn't worry too much...

I just sent my paperwork in today, so hopefully I'll be good to go in a cuple of weeks. I just can't take a Friday off to get the paperwork in, and I'm way too far away to drop it off during the week.

Here's hoping that they actually do accept mail-in's. :)
