When is the next Pig O Rama? I last heard that there was one in November. Is that the first? I think the same Rifenbarks will be in attendance with the addition of nrifenbark's son. What about you guys?

Next one is in December. Not sure if I'll make that one.

I'll be going again in the winter/spring timeframe, as soon as I find out when my brother can get back out here again. December is too close to the holidays and family time. Duck hunting will be enough strain... a three day trip to Tejon would bust that camel's back.

MN,

I'm lazy or I'd do it for you, but I believe the exact dates were posted on the list back in the summer. Might try scrolling down or searching (if you search Pig-o-rama you should get a ton of hits).

It seems like the December hunt is near the beginning of the month. Can't recall, though, so I could be complete bass ackwards.

Hi Guys!
<

December 6th-8th is the next POR. After that, I believe it will be Feb, April, May, and June. I'm iffy on the Dec date. However, Feb and May are in the bag.

Hope we can hook up, and share some deer jerky!

MN,

If my experience is any indicator, you guys will LOVE the Tejon hunt. To start with, it's one of the most beautiful areas you'll ever get into. There are cattle there, and they make a mess here and there, but overall the place is awesome. And you can go through two or three different kinds of habitat in a day of driving.

December should be good, and if the rain hasn't started in earnest, the roads will still be very driveable. A decent 4wd will cover any place you want to go, and in spite of how I usually feel about road hunting, it's worthwhile at Tejon to cover the roads a bit, especially at first. You'll soon find that there's very little area that can't be seen from one road or another, and you'll be able to find where the pigs are concentrated. Don't do like I did, and try to hike it out on your first day. That's hit or miss at best, especially not knowing the area. Go ahead and drive.

I can hardly stand the wait for my next one!

Thanks Speck! I hunted there last year and took a nice sow. I agree the ranch is awesome! I went when they allowed unguided hunts. I spent 5 days there camping, driving and hunting the South end. Saw lots of pigs but no good boars. I hear on the north side there are some decent boars being taken, Is that true? Thanks......

I think almost everyone hunted the South side when I was there. They opened the whole place up to us, though, so we could have hunted anywhere. That was the May hunt, and I don't think more than two or three folks went home without a pig.

It is all unguided, so you kinda do what you will. After a day and a half without even seeing a whisker, though, I listened real close when one of the ranch staff was in camp talking to some of the guys. It sure helped me, I'm not ashamed to say, and my brother and I saw a bunch of pigs that evening, and went back in the morning when both of us tagged out within five minutes of each other. They can't guide you to the pigs, but a friendly conversation can sure yield some intel. Of course, if there's some rain in December, I don't think you'll need much help to find the critters.

Did they raise the prices? I thought the P-O-R hunts were $300.00.

The pig-o-ramas are still $300 to the best of my knowledge.

The hunts referenced in Kickaha's post are the Turner's series of hunts that include lodging. Those hunts are $500 (plus $10 a year insurance). You can also pay for and take additional hogs on the $500 hunts. These are not the same as the Pig-o-rama.

These hunts get good write-ups, by the way, but for the additional $200 I'd just as soon camp. One hog is all I generally care to butcher at a time anyway.

Looks like the extra $210 listed there buys you lodging, food, and a minute with Jim Matthews.

I prefer my own tent, Dinty Moore, and the folks from JHP.

Well this is sounding good to me. Pretty much the same price as The Williamsons.

It don't get much better than a good 'ole Pig O Rama! Price is right. Place is right. And, sitting around the campfire listening to Speck read from his collection of hunting stories, makes the whole experience a real kick in the pants. Yep, it's a real hoot.

As far as I know my dad, buddy and I will be making it to the December hunt. Just hope the weather is dry for those days and the pigs are plenty. Can't wait to meet some of you guys around the campfire and listen to everyone's stalk and shoot stories from the day's hunt. Hope to see ya there.

Was I completely wrong in thinking that there was a November hunt? I won't be able to go in December.

I may have to take that last pork chop out of the freezer and shoot it again to get my fix.

J-Rif:

Last time a spoke with Barbara at Tejon, a few months back, she said that the first POR would be Dec 6-8. I think they are all about guiding doctors and lawyers for deer in November.

About an hour ago, I got an email from my wife that read: Honey, mark your calendar. My company Christmas party is December 6th.

I wrote back: I think that I'm coming down with the measels on December 5th.
