I had pretty cool lighting the last couple of days, and I was fortunate enough to see a couple of nice deer. These were taken with my Sony F707+B300. I had the camera set on shutter priority with a value of 1/200s. I have been getting frustrated with the animal moving and blurring the photos. So I decided to force the shutter to be faster. Some of the photos came out underexposed, but I used photoshop to brighten them up some. Overall, I came away with more keepers. OhioBowHunter asked in another thread (and I should answer him there, but I am lazy) if I had gotten a dslr yet. And so far I have not. I am kind of waiting to see what the next batch of cams has to offer. Maybe next year I will spring for it. Until then I will keep shooting with my sony.

Enjoy,

Fantastic photos lan-lord....
Next to impossible to get a photo of a blacktail that large. I don't think I could stop shaking trying to get a pic of something like that.

Keep up the good work.

Lan-lord, you just keep amazing me, over and over and over!

I have to ask though, are you a hunte? I have no idea how I could photograph bucks that big, as such a close range and not have blurred photos from shaking like a leaf.

Do you know what some people would pay to kill big bucks like that, especially free range bucks. Amazing, simply amazing.

Well, I haven't hunted in a couple of years. I used to hunt on a place in S. Texas with my dad and brother. Our circumstances changed a few years ago and that place is no longer available for us to hunt on (eg we used to hunt for free, now the guy wants to lease it out). Let me tell you, there were some BIG deer down there.

Right now I'm just trying to satisfy the photo bug. It hasn't happened yet. Probably wont happen. I'm also kind of observing my own "large whitetail" experiment. Nothing scientific, but it is interesting to watch these big guys grow up. I will say that I used to shake like a jack hammer when photographing the big ones. I dont anymore. It may be different if I had a rifle in my hands though. Also, I have learned to judge large whitetails from a distance a lot better now too. Not only by their head gear, but by their posture and attitude. It is kind of like I have a different perspective on them now. I dont know, maybe I am just getting old

I will say that it takes a different kind of dicipline to photograph them.
