Anyone have any experience with the Nikon Coolpix 5700? Looks like a nice camera for outdoor shooting. Has 8X zoom and is 5mp. I was wondering how the picture quality was with the 5700.
From what I've heard, the pictures quality of the 5700 is very good. The main problem I've heard of with it is that the autofocus doesn't work all that well in low-light conditions. It kinds of "searches" around for awhile. I played with one in a store in Anchorage. It was a well lit store, and the autofocus was pretty slow. Even the techie sales guy said they had all played with it when it first came in, and they weren't thrilled with that AF. It's a really nice little package. The camera is quite small, and as you say, that 8x lens is great. I think it depends on what you will use it for. I've seen great reviews for it when taking bright, outdoor pictures.
You all have made some good comments. It sort of sounds like the same problem on the other post where some of the board members were having problems with the Olympus C-750 Ultra Zoom. They were having problems with the AF in a woods setting when taking pictures of deer. I am looking for a digital camera that has a 8 to 10 zoom for taking wildlife pictures. I also like the macro capability as well. I was looking at cameras that were anywhere from 4MP to 6MP. I was thinking I found the right camera when I came across the Nikon Coolpix 5700. But now, after reading your comments, I am having some second thoughts. Any suggestion guys and gals?
I have a 740 and haven't had any trouble with focus in low light or brush....I take lots of photos of my grandkids playing sports and it take great action photos. It has 3.2 mg but takes pictures that will match the higher models.....will take a 3200x2400 photo or in tiff its 16 mgs per photo....hard to beat those numbers.
Im in the same situation as you...im looking for something to use in the woods with a good zoom....got down to the Nikon 5700 and the Olympus 750 as of now but am still looking.. If you hear anything that really swings u one way or the other let me know..thanks
Another camera that just came out that may solve the AF lag problem discuss above. The Canon Rebel EOS digital camera just came out. It is brand new on the market so there is not a lot of reviews that I can find. This digital is has the ability to change lenses. Price wise it is still up there, about $899 without the lens. $999 with a 28-90mm lens. From what I have read so far the AF is faster than others on the market. You all do some checking and let me know what you think.
