I am looking to buy a new pair of hunting binos. Have narrowed it down to either nikon monarch ATB $233.00 at DNR or pentax dcf hr $200.00 at sierra trading post. The pentax would be closeouts. The only other differance is that the pentax are weatherproof not waterproof like the nikons. I have heard that the glass of the pentax are of better quality. I'm torn any suggestions.

They're both excellent optics. I prefer the Nikon's.

I did some research for binos about a year ago and I read numerous accounts of the objective lenses falling out of that particular model of Pentax. Of those two particular models, I would go with the Nikon.

Thanks for all the advise. I went for the nikons, which should be arriving sometime today. Can't wait. I'll let you know how they work out.

I recently got a pair of the Nikon Monarch 8 x 42 ATB bino's. Very happy with them. Very bright and clear, even at dusk / low light conditions.

I also picked up a pair of the Pentax 8 x 21 UCF compact binoc's to carry while upland game hunting. They are very clear as well. Not waterproof but a nice compact binoc.

Got mine through Binoculars.com. $250.00 for the Nikons and $60.00 for the Pentax. Shipping was included.
