Went to Cow Mountain early this am and found absolutely no signs of hogs. Nothing, nada, zip, zilch!

Last year we came here and there were tracks everywhere. We didn't get one but I chalked it up to how thick the chapparal is on the mountain. Has anyone taken a hog this year on CM?

I called the BLM for Cache Creek and the ranger said they haven't heard of any hogs taken in that area .

Any ideas? I have another day in this area.

That area is a prime example of the detrimental effect of fire suppression can be. Most of the area is impassable to both humans and critters, totally overgrown with chemise and other brush. A really good burn would turn it into a paradise.

don't bother with this area. I don't want to sound like a downer but you would be better off getting up early, way before sunrise and spend your day in Knoxville. if I had to spend a day looking for hogs on public land this would be it. Knowville isn't a guarantee for hogs but their there. Turkey's too, but thats not until the Fall.

I appreciate the heads up. We ended up scouting Cache Creek pretty good and found a spot with some recent scat and some fresh signs of rooting. We'll go back in a couple of weeks to investigate. Sounds like a recon of Knoxville is in order if we are in that area.
