no scopes on muzzleloaders?

Is this correct No scopes on muzzleloaders unless you are a disabled ( which means blind) and I'm not hunting with you...

Am I reading this correctly?
(f) Under the provisions of a muzzleloading rifle only tag, hunters may only possess muzzleloading rifles as described in subsection 353(a) equipped with open or "peep" type sights only except as describled in subsection 353(k).
(g) Under the provisions of a muzzleloading rifle/archery tag, hunters may only possess muzzleloading rifles with sights as described in subsection 353(f); archery equipment as described in Section 354; or both. For purposes of this subsection, archery equipment does not include crossbows, except as provided in subsection 354(j).

Yep,
1. Even if you qualify as sight impaired, your scope can have no magnification.

2. You can't even use fiber optic sights on a muzzle only hunt.

IIt's always been my understanding that if you are hunting during a General hunt you can have a scope. If it is a muzzleloader specific hunt, no scope.

Key words "muzzleloading rifle only tag", I.E any hunt that starts with MA.

If you have, say, an A-zone general season rifle tag and decide you'd like to hunt with a muzzleloader, you can use a scope.

Or, if you are hunting a muzzleloader/shotgun area at say: FHL or VAFB, you can use a scope.

That is why it called a "primitive weapon"... Most western states have strict laws about enhancements to primitive weapons and I for one agree...

My muzzleloader has fibers to enhance the open sights. I did a lot of research before I bought it to make sure this is legal in CA. It is. I would be very interested to hear if this changed. I remember reading specifically about the fibers being okay as they are not really "optics" rather than a bright open sight.
