A guy called me today from OR about wanting to hunt pigs in NoCal. His son is 23 and has passed Hunter Ed but has no way to prove it? Can the son still walk in and get a non rez license today to hunt Sunday?

The guy who called is near Sacramento so where would be the best place to get a Non Rez license?

Thanks

without proof[a license or hunt ed]..he aint getting it..although some of the quality personel
at the big5 outlets dont even ask for previous license or proof of hunter ed... but thats another thread..im not to sure sporting good stores even carry non res licenses
or no res pig tags,,thought you could only get them from dfg offices.. let us know how it turns out..*** also, dont let the dude get talked into buying one of those
non resident 5 day licenses..ive sent many a people home because they were told buy the local sporting good stores here in california that they were good for hunting pigs... and they are not... small game only."

Broadway Bait Rod & Gun

This was where I bought mine when I came down in Dec. They do sell nonres lic and tags. I still have my Cal Hunter Safety from way back then so thats how I got my lic there and they will ask for HS or previous Lic like Hatchet says.

There is supposed to be a database kept with the NRA that will show proof of hunter ed. I don't know if this is true or not or whether you have to be a member to access it.

I don't know the specifics for California, but I can tell you that in GA, where I'm from, there is a database. I have lost my card a dozen times and I just log in, supply SSN and birthday, and it spits out a replacement card, no charge on my home PC. As I say, not sure about details here, but it would stand to reason it wouldn't be too much more complicated.........oh wait,......sh*t, this is California..............nevermind!

If he has a license from a state that requires hunter ed, then CA will accept that as proof that he's taken the course. If he has no license and no Hunter Ed card, then he'll need to get a replacement card.

funny. my hunter ed teacher said the first hurdle right out of class, used to test our level of responsiblity was to NOT lose our class certificate. he kept copies, but warned us that he would rib us mercilessly if we went to him for a replacement. i magneted it to my fridge ASAP. it has been years, i think i still have it.
