Non-residents can now hunt California elk

[EL CAZADOR]

This was signed yesterday (9/29). It is for both elk and antelope.

This bill would authorize any person generally, without regard to
residency, to obtain an antelope or elk license tag if certain
requirements are met. The bill would also require the commission on
or before July 1, 2007, and by regulation, to fix the antelope
license tag fee for a nonresident of the state at not less than $350
and to fix the elk license tag fee for a nonresident of the state at
not less than $1050. The bill would limit the number of tags issued
annually to nonresidents to one antelope tag and one elk tag.

I don't like it, but it's fair.
I apply every year in AZ and so I guess it's only fair as long as they put a 10 percent cap on the non-res.

You know guys, I don't agree. I apply in multiple states every year and I believe that it is only fair to give non-resident hunters a chance to complete a slam on elk without having to pay big bucks for a special tag. I'll probably catch some flack, but oh well.

I agree that it is fair - but they are going to pay a hefty price for that tag - $1050 minimum

Am I confused here !!!!! does this mean that they will draw onlt 2 non-res tags ... one of each specie?

Agree with the sucks but fair camp. Is there a cap on NR tags that will be issued? It is only fir if we do it like other states. Not concerned about antelope (who would come here to hunt antelope anyway?) but the elk kinda bums me out.

COhunter, there is a difference. Tule elk are far more rare than the RM. They only live in CA. They deserve to command a higher price.

Isn't there more Roosevelt and Rocky tags than Tule tags drawn?

And there are many non-resident hunters that would like the opportunity to hunt Cali Pronghorn. Both Nevada and Oregon are a tough draw in that tri-state area.

It's a big deal for some folks

I bet the folks posting that they dont like Nonresidents getting "1" Elk tag in California (which probably isn't even 10% of the tags), would be angry as hell if Colorado imposed a 10% cap on Nonresident Elk Tags which would still equal out to about 10,000 tags.

Yeah, it's definately fairer than what it was. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to put in for it--it'd be the only way I could ever afford to get a tule elk bull.

Now I wish I had put in for my points this last so I'd have still been in the max point pool--goes to show that the point game definately can change on you once you jump into it.

You're comparing Apples with Oranges.
Tule elk are like Shiras moose in CO. or like Mountain Goat and Bighorn in your state.
Actually they are more rare than that because they are ONLY in CA.
If you can't see the difference than you can't tell apples from oranges!
