My hunting partner got this dude Thursday night; 128 lbs. (gutted). I wasn't there for the stalk and shot, but came out for the recovery. Steve had seen him come out of the brush right at sunset and made a quick stalk to get in and ID him for a possible shot. The wind was light and crossing (unusual for that spot as there's only one way in) and was able to get to about 30 yards. When he saw his pecker he knew it was a shooter, so hit him behind the shoulder with a 165 TSX handload out of his Model 70 .300 wsm. DRT with the heart completely gone. He cleaned up good and is "on the hook". Good job Steve! I wish I was there for it.

You can't shoot sows at Vandy? Nice hog though, looks heavier in the pics than 128. Too bad your buddy looks so bummed out.

We have so many opportunities (we're local) that it would be damaging to the population to kill sows. That's next year's hunting. We get a lot of out-of-town hunters that can only come up once or twice a year so it's just good management to try and kill only boars. It also adds to the fun to ID 'em and work in close. There's still sows killed here, but we don't do it.

That's the perfect size boar in my opinion, that one will eat good! Congrats.
