I have been drawn for a mobility impaired dove hunt on 9/3 in the North Chimineas unit at Carrizo Plains. I have hunted Carrizo for quail and coyote but not on the Chimineas units. Should I buy a hog tag? I am hesitant since I will be solo, unless I can bring a companion. Any tips?

I'm on the same hunt, but plan to focus on dove. I will probably bring a .308 and pig tag "just in case". I know nothing about the area other than DFG says they will set up at the check-in "around 5 am" and will then let us in early. I have had other past participants tell me that they never saw hogs but did see signs and "heard" that other hunters got hogs. Honestly I'm not sure I'd even take the shot if I had one, since I don't want to deal with a hog in 100 degree heat, which is likely to be what we are going to have.

I saw one hog taken, but thats one more than the number of doves I saw taken! lol By a guy accompanied by one of the Foundation members so they probably knew exactly where to go and had his hog in a tree by 9 am. I saw a lot of old sign in areas that used to have water, but everything was so dry that I doubt it meant much for this hunt.
