So...the wife gives me a card for Valentine's Day with a note in it that says she booked me a pig hunt with North Powder Outfitters. She paid for it already, I just have to call and pick a date. Anybody know anything about them? Apparently they're up near Redding in Shasta county. I checked the website and it sounded good...as do they all though. Just looking for anybody who has ever hunted with them or up in that part of the state to get some info. The farthest north I've ever hunted (for pigs) is up by Lake Sonoma.

Hey Neck,

I hunted with Jason last year on the Williams ranch, had 2 opportunities on a huge boar from about 175 yards out but could not close the deal.

NOTE TO SELF: Make sure to inspect your equipment BEFORE you go to the field, especially the tightness of your scope mounts, it might cause you to shoot HIGH !!!!!!!!!!

Jason is a great guy that will work hard to get you an opportunity, just be ready you might have to take that shot in a hurry. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Genome...thanks for the vote of confidence for the outfitter. That sucks about the missed opportunity. Seems like that kind of thing only happens when a big one shows up.

What's the hunting like up there? Steep... brushy...open? Lots of pigs or just a few good ones? How much walking did you do...a couple miles or a bunch of miles?

Thanks for the info!

Murphy was my partner that day !!

The terrain is a mix of just about everything, I only saw one pig that day probably due to the fact that my hunt was in the middle of May (HOT).

The Ranch is huge so getting around involves riding passenger on Jason's quad. Hold on though, he rides fast and likes to cover lots of ground.

I Video hunts for Jason's clients, You'll see lots of hogs and you should get one if you can shoot straight.

Let me know if you want you hunt filmed or contact Jason when making hunt dates.

Just dropped the check for the deposit in the mail...June 22nd is the day. Yeah, it already cost me a night's sleep because I'm so excited. Hell, I've still got a trip up to Vandenberg planned in March that I'm totally looking past getting ready to go up to NPO. I've talked to Jasan several times already and I've been on the website a couple hundred times. Never know how it will work out but he seems real confident he'll put me in range of one and it'll be up to me from there. I can't ask for more than that.

I just quit working for the outfit that leases the grazing rights on the Williams ranch that Jason hunts. That ranch is crawling with hogs right now. Jason is a stand up guy and I've seen the hogs that he has been getting the last 6 months and they have really been quallity animals. I haven't hunted with him since I was ranching but in a day of working it was rare not to see atleast a few hogs. Good Luck!!!
