We'll went and hunted the Archery opener this weekend on the coast near the town of Elk. Was the first time hunting this particular area and we saw just about everything imaginable. We saw two fox's, a skunk, 11 Hogs and 5 legal bucks. No bucks to write home about, but some of the other guys did see some really great bucks and had the pictures to prove it taken through there spotting scope. We got in the middle of some hogs that had 2 Sows about 8 25lb pound youngsters. We went ahead and took one of the 100 lb Sows once we were able to determine that she was dry. There was about a 200lb boar that was also hanging out about 300 yards away but we never thought we could make it too him without spooking the others so we took the opportunity while we had it. By the time we had finished gutting the hog the boar that closed the distance to us down to 20 yards and I decided it was time to get his attention and we yelled at him sending him running like a freight train across the hillside. Had we had another pig tag in our pocket we probably would have whacked him as well.

Sounds like you had a blast... Are you hunting on a WU land? Heading up there during the second week of opening weekend.

And yet the gov bitches about not enough pigs being taken and their becoming a pest. Got me stuffed why they are on one hand spending your money on helicopter shooting and still tying your hands with tags.

I am saying your game laws are pathetic when it comes to pigs. This guy had to pass up a chance at putting a PEST species in his fridge because F and G insist he have a tag prepurchased for it: while at the other end of the office F and G plan how to spend your game licence money on helicopter shooting of pigs. If pigs are a big enough problem they are closing reserves and using helicopter mounted marksmen to kill them then they could first waive the need for a tag and see how many extra pigs get taken.

Texas is where they shoot them with Helicopters. That is not allowed here in CA. I could buy as many tags as I want. If I had 12 tags in my pocket I probably could have killed 12 pigs this trip but I wouldn't have. One is perfect and it's my third this year so I am not hurting in the food department. These pigs won't be affecting anything.

They are considering taking the helicopter approach here in San Diego area. There was a thread about it here less than a month ago. I'm sure you can still find it if interested in reading.

Sorry, I thought when you said this you meant it....

That was what prompted my comment

As already pointed out, your (CA) F and G dept' is intending to shoot plenty of hogs from the air, using your money, regardless of if you think it would be legal. I was just despairing at the inherent conflict in them limiting your take while using your money to try and wipe them out.
