Need some help? Look for me in a Silver 4-door Toyota Tacoma with matched shell tomorrow morning.

No elk taken today, or at least there weren't any hanging anytime we drove by. This afternoon was better than the morning. We estimate we saw about 150 elk today. About 100 mixed cow and bull inside an archery area and about 16 bulls in a muzzleloader area, next to the road.

Mel, better beg, borrow or buy a ML, cause those 16 bulls were awesome and they are the same place I saw the last two times I hunted elk on FHL.

Cow down! Jim shot a 300 lb cow this morning at 1010 in area 13E with Allan's ML. Spotted them from Jolon Rd and Jim put about a hour snoop and poop on a herd of about 60. There was a nice 6x7 in the group. They got skittish and started moving and Jim was able to get in front of them and get a shot in as they passed.

It was the first cow brought in and to my knowledge the only one today. We skinned and quartered and we'll load up and head home tomorrow.

Thanks Mel. These elk are a little bigger than those blacktails we chase down at Vandenberg. I think I am going to buy a TC Omega, thanks Alan, that gun is awesome.... Hit the cow in the shoulder at about 100 yds while trotting.... 2nd shot, she tipped over and didn't get back up. Dan's new name is "the Herder".

Congrats again! The herder huh, that's funny. Man, listening to all these past hunts and the amount of elk that are being seen, and how much fun you guys are having. I don't know how much more I can take!

Really; you are most welcome. I'm glad the gun did the job for you. That load you shot was my reload after killing a decent forkie at 175 yards back in early October. Gotta love that Blackhorn!

Congrats to Jim on his cow. I was hoping to be there to help bird dog but got a nasty cold Tues. My friend Jimmy Rizzo is up there too and he said if anyone needs help on their cow to let him know. He's in room #9 at Gibb's Hall. Newer Maroon Chevy p/u I think he has. Contact me if you need his phone number.

Question?
Was it a clean pass thru? or did you recover the 250gr Barnes?

Was at a hight point in area 14 and glassed a herd in 12B. The distance was too far for the 10x42 bino to tell if there were any bull in the herd, but there were definitely some cows. I asked a couple of folks in the campground if they were elk hunters, but none were.

Also saw some elk in the archery only areas, both sides of Mission Rd.

Congrats to Jim and the Herder!

It appears to have a been a pass thru...todays butcher day so we'll confirm. The shoulder's a bit of a mess, hard to tell for sure. It certainly did the the job.

That's funny, we were in room #9..He must moved in behind us! It's a lucky room, but those beds are too short!

Thanks! We saw elk in 16b, 13E, 25 and the archery area next to 13w. Seemed they were hanging in the roads less traveled.

I don't know how many elk hunters were telling us they wish they'd brought their ML. One fellow was on his way into town to buy one.

Maybe it was #8, he was in that lower side on the front he said. I'm missing that place bad.
