I just ordered the 300mm f/4 yesterday, it should be here around the middle of this coming week.... I can't wait!
<
I will order the 1.4 T/C in a couple of weeks, I want to try to get used to the lens by its self first (no hurry).

EF 300mm f/4L IS USM Telephoto Lens

Compact L-series telephoto lens with an Image Stabilizer which compensates for camera shake with the equivalent effect of a shutter speed two stops faster. Two Image Stabilizer modes are provided: Stabilizer Mode 1 (the same mode featured on the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM) and the new Stabilizer Mode 2 which steadies the image during horizontal or vertical panning. Mode 2 detects the panning direction automatically. The closest focusing distance is 4.9 feet (1.5 m).

Thanks Zach and Hideandwatch.

Zach, you weren't kidding when you said this can be addictive, I've got my eye's on a couple of other lenses and I'm starting to think I'm going to need a second job to support my hobby.

Paul, check out the buy&sell forums on FM and POTN. You can get some great deals on gear, just check the seller ratings. Also, see if there is a craigslist in your area. Good way to find local deals.

Yes very addicting! I'm looking at 500 f/4 and a 1D body as my next purchases. I'm gonna need a second job too!!!

Congrats Paul! I dont even take my camera out of the house any more without the 70-200. It's a fine piece of glass and I have no doubt the 300 is every bit as good.
