Hey everybody im new here and pretty new to hunting in general. Hopefully this site will prove to be a useful resource for me. I live in the Santa Barbara area and I plan to start hunting upland birds this coming season. I am really excited to get into hunting but have limited experience hunting, just a couple of times hunting pheasant in the midwest when I was younger. I was hoping to get some info on Quail hunting in southern cal. I recently completed all the necessary safety classes and plan to buy a new shotgun soon, now I just need some place to hunt. My Dad has hunted Quail near Cuyama on BLM land with mixed results, so this will most likely be the first place we try. Im sure people are not likely to give up there best spots but any advice would be much appreciated. I was also wondering how this years lack of rain is going to affect upland bird numbers.

Welcome to the site, Goes211.
Everyone was new at some time. Browse / search through the upland bird topics for spots up near SB. The bad part about hunting Cali- is that you have to drive so far. One year, I heard the DFG crew say that a group was supposed to drive from SB to Beaumont for the family pheasant hunt.
