I rarely don't toot my own horn, but the other evening I did something I haven't done in my 25+ years of archery hunting. I smoked a large hog with my stick and string. I've killed many hogs withmodern archery equipment, but nothing like this with my recurve, We went out the other evening for hogs. It wasn't long before we got into a group of them feeding over a hill toward us through the trees. I moved from cover too cover trying to close the distance to three nice hogs feeding separate from the others that were in there group. After approaching to within 20-25 yards, I picked the one giving me the clearest shot broadside. When I drew my recure to full draw, it turned away from me, and I didn't have a clear shot anymore. I held it at full draw (59lbs @ 29") for about 10+ seconds after another hog caught my movement. I was hoping it would give me a good shot again, and finally the shot presented itself. I let the arrow loose, and the next thing we see is it running down hill with my arrow sticking out of its broadside area. After about 60-80 yards of tracking blood and tracks in the fresh mud, we found it piled up in a small clearing. Luckily my arrow hit very close to where I was looking, and after going threw the shoulder bone it took out both lungs before sticking into the opposite shoulder. We guessed her to be close too 300lbs on the hoof. :pig-laughing:

A huge thanks to my buddy who gave me the invite to this ranch.....

Way to go! I am amazed that you were able to penetrate the shoulder at 59 lbs of draw weight. Fixed broadheads are the way to go on big hogs.

There's nothing like stalking up close and shooting a hog with a bow....

Do you hunt mostly archery??

Yes.....

Either with my Compound(s) or Crossbow. But now it may be more with my trad bow sense this one. I've never killed one with a muzzle loader. I like to give that go someday too. Actually, I've never killed one with a rifle, all have been with some sort of sharp stick....

This arrow is right at 800 grains with 22-23% FOC. Even tough its not going very fast, it has a lot of momentum behind it. And being a COC broadhead, with a shallow blade angle, it has advantages over other broadheads on hogs. Though there not a expensive broadhead, ($30.00-$33.00 for 6) the metal they use, I can get them scary sharp with my Lanski sharpeners. I typically set a 25 degree blade edge on them. I don't even like to run my finger across the blades after finishing them. But, the bleeder blades they use are only 15 thousandths in thickness, and with a 17 degree edged (razor blade edge) they dull fast, and can bend easily hitting any hard bone. The main blade is still sharp on this one, but the bleeders are trashed and were replaced.
