You have done your research for sure. Have you ever made a shoulder shot on a mature boar? Most sows do not have the scar tissue that boars do. I had a shot not penetrate the shoulder at 40 yards with a mechanical on a big boar while hunting deer. My bow shoots at 285 fps by chrono, but I use much lighter arrows. Impressive pig you got, I was just amazed at the effeciency based on shot placement- not trying to hijack the thread.

Yes, several times.... (unfortunately)

There's more then a couple large boars that have broadheads I've lodged into there shoulder/cartilage (Armor) that are still rooting up the country side today. I shot a very large boar two years ago that I broke its back on with the first arrow. I walked up to it to 10-15 yards to place a final arrow into him to stop its suffering. Right when I shot, he spun to look at me, and may arrow hit in the worst possible location. It hit dead center into his shoulder joint with thick cartilage covering it. My arrow penetrated only 2-3" at most!!! This was with a bow setup specifically for large hogs shooting 80lbs of KE with a good broadhead leading the way. The next arrow got into the vitals and shortly after he was taking a final nap. I've also recoverd other boars that have had slugs and broaheads still in them. Large boars can be very tough to kill with archery equipment at times. Luck sometime is your best friend...

Great story. I've grown up hunting deer most my life (in Maine), and am new to hog hunting. Would like to take one with my bow, on Maui where I live now. Spot and stock is tough here though, due to the terrain and vegitation, but doable I think. We'll see. Enjoy hearing about the success of others.
