Thanks for all the comments. Helps to hear stuff like that.

I don't think I'm really a "trophy hunter." If I was, I'd hire guides and hunt more private property. I truly think a 300" bull looks like a trophy on the wall. I just want to kill the hardest-to-kill animal on the hill. I figure if people have killed big 350+ bulls in my unit, I should make that a goal. Over the last three days of my hunt, I was more than willing to shoot a 5pt. Just didn't happen. If I was hunting CO at the time, I would be stoked to kill a branched bull. Don't ask me why, I just like to make it hard on myself and use all the days of the hunt. I love being out there. And, I get a serious kick out of letting a good animal walk. I dunno. I just do.

Here are some photos from my trip. These are about all the photos I took. I didn't want to take scenic photos as I didn't want to put my bow down. Know what I'm sayin' yo? Can't seem to get more than two on a page. What the...?

You don't kill big ones shooting the little ones..Furthermore, to kill something you would be disappointed with is senseless..That's my goal on every hunt i go on, to kill the biggest animal in that area. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesnt. Great work on sticking with it.

Sounds like a great hunt. I know all about the highs, lows, close calls, and frustration. I had 29 days invested in my bull and often wondered what the hell was wrong with me and if it was what i was doing.
I came to realize that a certain amount of luck comes into the picture if you want to wack a big mature herd bull. It took me 29 days for the luck to kick in and all the pieces to fall into place.
Make sure you put in for 34 next year and you could still do that hunt in 2 sections. I drive out or fly out to CA every 2 weeks and you could catch a ride with me at least on the way there or back.
Great hunt and great memories.

Its your tag, your hunt and your vacation. Shoot what ever you want or don't shoot anything!
The hunt in all in the eyes of the tag holder. I have passed on some animals that people thought I was crazy, but I got to keep hunting after that animal walked away. It looks and sounds like you had a great time and that is all that matters!

Just my 2 cents

Killer trip, Amigo. Man, that's a full hunt. Tagged out or not. Glad you're back.

In about '93 I spent the whole season in 6A. I remember at times action would be slow, I'd really miss the family and the days would drag. Other times 2 or 3 days would fly by just trying to put a plan together.

Welcome back Brent.

Two stalks a day is fantastic! You were really gittin' with it. You probably saw more shooter bulls this year than the average hunter sees in ten years. Don't worry, you are just building up karma again to cash in on a monster...believe me.

So you gonna have time for a little hog huntin'? .... I'm countin' on you bud!

I envy you my friend, you have absolutely nothing to hang your head about big guy, and I'm sure your not anyway, not many guys can say that they had the chance at a 320 bull and passed, I commend you because you had a goal in mind and you stuck with it, you could of taken lesser bulls, but like you said, why settle for lesser bulls, when you know how big they can get in that unit, I would of tried very hard to do the same thing, but I have to admit, your a better man than me, because I would of let an arrow fly at a 320 bull. But good things come to those who wait and someday in the near future you will be rewarded with the bull that you have always dreamed of taking.

Thanks for filling us in on the trip, I always enjoy reading your stories and posts. Good luck on getting a local deer this year.

Brent. You've come a long way. Motivated, dedicated and down right obsessed with the show! Way to go and hold off..I know it's the hardest thing to do. But what a great experience for you. I will be talkin to you for sure to help me plan an elk bugle bow stickin cherry poppin trip in FY08. I need a bull..but I can't promise I will hold off on a 300 class hawg!! later and look forward to your local sd rut posts to come.

Wow. Who bumped this thread to the top? BTele? What up? It was a blast to spend that many days chasing elk. I can't wait to do it again. I guess it's time to start concentrating on the local hunt again.
