B N D, I would never ask for specific spots; I think that's a very personal question. Thanks for the boost, and it's good to see some folks in the same boat as me.

Cal hunter, I hunt both, a 30-30 Winchester and an AIM 55 lb. recurve. With the recurve I took the first deer of my life a couple of years ago.

JOSHUA-

You should really try to attend and hunt the JHO ham slam coming up at Lake Sonoma. I don't bowhunt but am probably going just in hopes of soaking up some of the good mojo from the guys who are going. If I had a bow i would take the time to get to know Lake Sonoma well, and I would reach out to the hamslam attendees for help with it.

Good luck!!!

Joshua,

BND gave some great advice and I agree with him 100%. I have shot many pigs at FHL and that is one of your best chances of seeing pigs on public land. There are quite a few JHOers that hunt there and be your best resource for hunting there. HuntrPat hunts there like a madman so if I would take him up on his offer, he can show you the ways of the force young padawon.

Joshua, i'll go out on a limb here and say that a public land hog is one of the toughest animals to find and kill in California. So be persistant and try some new areas, if you're still stumped and can't find any sign, shoot me an e-mail this fall/winter and i'll help ya out a bit.[/b]

I hear Donkey Mt. is a good place

I picked up my first Parker compound bow for Christmas this past year and I have to tell you that it has truly made me a more capable and complete hunter over all. BND was correct. Research, research , research. And if your lucky you get knowledge from the people who are willing to take you under their wing and show you their true passion. I am in that same boat as far as pig hunting as I plan to do a pig hunt this year. Alot of my info comes from reading all the back post of previous years and then comparing them to what is happening in the present. Good luck and I think I might have to try the JHO Ham Slam depending on cost of course.

Mid-week on some of the BLM properties. They can be an absolute zoo on weekends but deserted mid-week.

As stated by JDP: Try Bryson Hesperia $200.00 dollar unguided hunt on private land.Give Dee Dee a call.

I'm wondering what's the success rate of an unguided hunt? Is the rate similar to public land hunts or is it higher? Since this is a ranch, I'm assuming the percentage of landing a pig on an unguided hunt is higher?
