On opening day of the Cascade Elk season in OR, my buddy and I both got our elk. He took a nice 5x6 that weighed ~380 dressed and on the meat hook. Mine was a nice 5x5 that weighed in at ~350 on the meat hook. It was opening morning about 7:45 when a herd of 20 or so came throuh the clearing that I was sitting in. I scanned the line of cows looking for antlers and shot the first set I saw. I was using a 338 win mag with a 250gr nosler partition. The bull dropped where he stood. About 10 seconds later I heard 2 shots from over the top of the hill where my buddy was sitting. He then radioed me that he too had taken a bull.

great job on the elk. not to many people score during that particular hunt so you bucked the odds immensely. what area of the cascades did you hunt?

We were hunting around dead soldier. Just west of the Crater Lake Park.
