Outdoor Library: Need a push to start camping?

As a lifelong camper (thank you, Girl Scouts of America), I find it perplexing that in a country with limitless places to pitch a tent, few people ever have done so. A few years ago during a rare stay in a national park lodge, I got into a conversation with some strangers and got some perspective.
