Independence Bull 141/1 (drawing odds 2005)

I got this bull last fall (Nov. 13, 2005); guided by Don Nichols out of Lone Pine. My son told me it was the best day of his life.

thats a nice bull bajamac,i am glade that i let my best friend take his son hunting with him on my property back east a few years back. i gave them the best tree stand out there and they did ended up dragging back a little buck! i will never forget the smile on that kids face and excitement of the hunt that they expierianced together, i could tell it brought them even closer together.thats what experienceing the great outdoors in a special way does to each one of us! i think it was the best day for all of us,their is no better partner

More Info:
Hunt #423 Independence Bull (CA residents only)
There were 141 applicants for the tag. I was the only hunter for elk in the Independence area for the nine day season. My son and I hunted 7 of the 9 days, but only saw 5 other elk in my area (1 raghorn; 1 fork and 3 spike). In the Lone Pine area we saw alot more elk and also got to see a Lone Pine hunter's 6X6. The sage is very tall and the reeds along the river bottom were up to 9 feet tall. The hunt is after the main rut, but we saw bulls with cows in Lone Pine. This 7X8 (243 BC gross) was taken during the last hour of the season at about 170 yards with my model 70 in 300 WinMag. The animal was shot quartering away; a lung shot behind the shoulder that blew out the far shoulder (I cleaned up the blood in photoshot). We felt very blessed to find and take this Tule bull. We used Dan Reade out of Independence to buther and process the meat and we were guided by Don Nichols out of Lone Pine. This was my first big game animal, I think I'm ruined.

I could never drive by the fields off 395 by Tinnemaha in the daytime without slowing down. Way back when the Independence area wasn't part of the hut area we saw some tremendous bulls when chasing feathered game.

Congradulations to you and your son, it really is a great area up here. I helped BCBEAR3 score on a great nontypical in the Lone Pine area this last season.

Oh and welcome to JHO.

Question to Hntnnut (Richard):

Did the nontypical you are speaking about have an antler that hung down on one side? Do you have a photo you can post?
