EMPORIUM -- Two Fayette County men have been charged with unlawfully taking of game or wildlife for allegedly killing a massive bull elk near the Clinton-Cameron county line in 2000.
Charges were filed Wednesday against Jacob A. Fisher, 21, of Layton, and a 17-year-old, whom authorities did not name because of his age. If convicted, each could face up to $800 in fines and could lose his hunting and trapping privileges for up to three years. They also could be charged up to $10,000 to replace the elk.
The two killed an elk weighing more than 800 pounds and with antlers spanning more than 6 feet, authorities said. It was believed to be the largest bull in the Pennsylvania herd and had lived 11 years.
Fisher is a student at West Virginia University. His attorney, Richard Bower, did not immediately return a phone call Thursday from The Associated Press.
