NO GUNS ALLOWED AT CUYAMACA RANCHO STATE PARK, except...

Firearms are used for poaching, and much worse. For these reasons, firearms, BB guns, paintball guns, slingshots, and bows and arrows are prohibited. Firearms may only be possessed when they are rendered inoperable and locked in a case."

I dont want to dismantle my rifle, plus I dont have a case that will lock it up. ????? Its an option for some I guess. Thanks

PS - sling shots can damage trees? Really? Thats one heck of a sling shot. Weapons of any kind? I can use a rock as a weapon so what's really going on here? (Pantheism - nature worship) Most people worship GOD, these folks worship nature. John Muir is a good example of a Pantheist and he started the Sierra Club. Starting to see a connection? When you USE RELIGION to direct PUBLIC policy you can see what we get - DISCRIMINATION and STUPID RULES based on worship of the natural world.

badbuck, camping in the cuyamaca's with a weapon is not a problem as long as they are keep in a case on away. I have camped there many times with my bow and never had a problem. you run into problems in the cuyamaca's when you draw attention to yourself or your weapon.

Lake Cuyamaca proper has some camping spots but only 14 tent plus some RV spots. NO fires. Reservation only. I'll call to see whats up.

CNF Laguna CG has 50 sites that are 1st come 1st served and many others that are reserved. We could hit the CNF from the east side if we stay here. We can even skin a hog at this CG with our rifles on the table and no one can say %^&*.

Rifles are not allowed to be used in the recreational portion of lagauna Mnt. They are allowed on the kitchen creek side of it.
However hanging a hog would not be an issue. Hunting is allowed albeit archery only.

State Parks in Cali are designed for the tree huggers. No hunters allowed.So next time they threaten to close state parks,Let them. Then they revert back to the National Forest dept.

I'd suggest we make the first hunt we do as 'easy' (from a location/coordination standpoint) as possible; and leave the well coordinated 'powerdrive' or whatever till the afternoon.

Thoughts;
- We're all going to be getting in/near at lots of different times Friday PM and/or Saturday AM, and probably won't have a chance to meet/coordinate until near shooting time.
- I know at least I (and would imagine others) don't have on-the-ground knowledge of these areas. I'm good at reading topos; but y'all know well that translates when trying to do anything complex in the dark.
- We'll be much better prepared for a coordinated hunt/location for the afternoon/evening. I think us collaborating face-to-face (heck, I'll bring my laptop/printer and plug it into my inverter and we can run off as many marked-up 7.5 topos as we want).

Of course, I'm looking forward to getting my butt out there with some cool, like-minded folks, so it doesn't make much nevermind to me; but my suggestion would be to;

Define an easy-to-find 'starting' location we can all (or diff groups if scouting diff areas) drive or carpool to for our first hunt (gps coord off a dirt road or whatever). Meet there at 0 dark 30, and do whatever works for the terrain/knowledge - team spot/stalk, drive, etc.

Then when we're done, we can plan out a better approach in the afternoon.

I know we can do quite a bit of planning over the forums/pm this week, but just thinking on the logistics a bit.

I called Lake Cuyamaca CG today and I guess they dont give out information on Fridays (?). The lady said to call back Monday morning and she could tell me whats available for camp sites. She said they've been getting lots of calls, so it might end up being full (its not that big).

At Laguna there are 4 or 5 camp groumds.A couple of private and a couple of National Forest. Also there are cabins and a hotel.That area could accomadate any overflow.

Also as a thought If you wanted to stay in a hotel you could stay in Alpine. You are still less than an hour away.

No hotels for me. I think our realistic options are going to end up being Laguna CG off the Sunrise HWY OR Lake Henshaw Resort CG. They are both about the same distance from our destination. If it was up to me I would just pick Laguna, they have 50 1st come 1st served sites.

Personally, I'll be camping out Friday night in close proximity to hunt area.After a Fri pm hunt maybe bbq a porterhouse steak or a small filet mignon to go with my baked potato and steamed veggies (gotta be fueled up for saturday morning). Brew some kona coffee tailgate style early Sat am. Gotta be light on my feet so I'll probably utilze my 5 gallon bucket bano to accomplish that.

Primitive camping at its best. No open fires, no bathroom, no flat screen, hopefully no cell service..... Just my lifelong quest to feed every mosquito on the planet !

The simple pleasures in life while in pursuit of the elusive , rare , endangered by my presence , San Diego county feral swine !!!

I think everyone is going to be pissed at the forest service for making so much hype about the pigs here. Many will spend two days walking their butts off and not see a thing and then wonder what the hell are they talking about.

The worst day in the field is better than the best day at work.....

Don't know bout you , but I realized long ago the pursuit is just as exciting as the take in hunting ! I can't tell you how many times I've come home with nothing but sore legs and a smile . There is a reason it's called 'hunting' and not 'shooting' !

Either way , when I return from a "hunting" trip, I am as 'happy as a pig in a puddle' !:hog chewing:
