Yep, I seen a bunch down there, seems like even if I don't touch it, I still somehow get it just looking at it.....Looking forward to hunting with you guys.....
I'm going to be out there Friday afternoon; probably be there 2-3 pm. I'm going to park at the lake, then snoop around sse towards the ranch, see if I can spot any sign, etc.
Going to pitch my tent by the big lake, warm up some mountain house and pair it with a nice Pinot...
In the Spirite of the Cleaveland National Parks hype I give you the San Diego Pig Drive report.ig-laughing:
I met up with kevinS and SDNative at Kessler Flats at about 10:30 Pm Friday night.
KevinS had been there since early afternoon. We sat around a bit and chatted and had a beer. The bullfrogs were croaking and the night was pleasant. We were all enjoying the camp.Even Niki the Vizsla was having a good time chasing the moths that were attracted by our lanterns.Every now and then she would bark at the croaking frogs so that we all would know that she was taking care of camp security.
About midnight we decided we should turn in and get some sleep so we could be somewhat rested for the mornings hunt.kevinS was going to meet some of the other hunters a 4:00am and wanted to be up by 3:30am. We all agreed thet he would wake the rest of us and we could prepare our breakfast and be on our way.
KevinS returned at 4:00am with "ChefTodd" and friend in tow. After introductions and some quick chat we look at the maps and planned our strategy. It was decided we would head towards Deadman Flats and push the caynon down to kessler Flats. So off we went laeaving one vehicle at camp so we would have transport back up to retreive our other vehicles.by 5:30am we were in position and spread out to push the canyon.
By this time we were five JHO members strong plus the Vizsla. We had decided we would push the canyon down to the first pond and then all meet up there to reorganize for the push to Kessler flats. So we made our way down the thick brush, poison oak and thru the ticks to the first pond.It was about 7:00am when everyone made it there.
After comparing notes on how much sign we saw and reassuring ourselves that there were no pigs left in that section of the forest we seperated and continued our push towards kessler flats. This second push too a couple of hours and we found ourselves back at the Flats at about 9:00am. We rested a bit and then went for the vehicles and returned to Kessler Flats.
Once at Kessler Flats we prepared our strategy for the next phase of the hunt. It was decided that we would drop down into the San Diego river basin and push noth towards Inaja Memorial.ChefTodd informed us how thick it was up that way and that he had hunted from the memorial before. So we agreed we would go as far as we could.
So off we went. We parked at Saddleback and started the hike down. We were about a quarter of the way down when we ran into five hunting brothers that were on a similar mission. After comparing inteligence with these hunters it was decide that all of the pigs in the Cleveland Forest had been vanquished. We then decided there was no point in continuing since the job had been completed. In all there were 13 hunters on the ground.Five in our group ,five in another group, two in still another group plus two hunters patrolling the roads. The overview is as follows.:hog chewing:
1. The Mission,Save taxpayers money and preserve San Diego Pig hunting.
2. The Plan, Erradicate or push all pigs out of The Cleaveland National Forest.
3.The results. All pigs pushed onto private lands and/or back to the reservation from whence they came.
It is now confirmed and a well known fact that there are no longer any pigs in the Cleaveland National Forest.
There should be no need of the Forest Service wasting any monies on such nonsense as pig erradication. It's been handled!
I hope all of the hype reporters latch on to this story and finally print some truth!:JHO rocks:
Maybe you could sent a report to them. You write very well and you could write a 3 page report to them and then attach a bill. 5 hunters 4x4 rental and a dog and handler. Give them a real taste of how much this could cost them with no results.
I wish I could their faces when they read it.
Great report. I agree with T.H send them a report with a bill !!!! Wish I had seen this when you guys where setting this hunt up, would have been great to have been a part of this.
