So the story begins with my Dad and I driving up to Kings City on Friday and getting a hotel for the night. The plan was for us to get up and meet Tom in San Ardo at 4:30. Tom was right on time and we made our way to his hunting lease. Once we got to the hunting area, we split up-I went with Tom and Dad went with Blake, Tom's son. Right at first light Blake spotted a nice boar making its way down to a river bed that was right bellow us. So, me and Tom hauled ass to get into position to intercept the hog as it made its way down towards us. The pig must have heard us because it disappeared when we got there. We sat there for about 5 minutes when we got a call from Blake who had spotted a herd of hogs making there way towards the beds which were about half a mile away. We all jumped into the trucks and started to practically race to the pigs. When we started driving closer, the herd started to run. We were in the lead truck followed by Blake and my Dad. We went right past a real nice boar that my Dad stopped and shot at, but with no luck. Meanwhile, Tom had positioned me about fifty yards in front of the heard and he told me to shoot the big sow that was in front.BOOM! Right threw her chest! She piled up no more than five yards away from impact. Then I heard a bang and then a squeal. I looked up to see a nice black boar limping up the hill with my Dad standing there still aimed at it. 2 pigs down and we had only been there for about an hour! We took pictures and celebrated our first hogs. We were driving out of the canyon we were in only to spot the boar that we had spotted earlier that morning. Dad told me to shoot and we chased it up the hills until I had a clear shot. BANG! A little to the right. BANG! A little high. So i settled down and took carefull aim. BANG! Shot a little high still but i cracked it right in the spine. We went over to examine it and it turned out to be a real nice pig. We went back to the ranch house, where Blake made short work of the three pigs, two of which were 200 plus pounds. It was a great experience and worth every penny! If you are looking for an awesome hog hunt, it needs to be with Tom Willoughby. Him and his son know where the hogs are and I will be returning every year!
