That's a classic, Jim. Nothing like getting the kids and their dads out there.

Man, I can't wait until my boy is old enough to go hunting with me. He will be 2 in a couple of weeks, so I have a few years to go
<
He loves watching hunting videos with me, though. He will hold anything he can find, point it at the screen and holler "shoot the turkey!" if the hunter is taking too long to make the shot.

There is something very "American" about that pic...... and also something universal and timeless.

Great picture of a caring father..... not to mention a cool dad.

Outstanding phot. I am sure the father in that phot loved your thoughtfulness and that picture. I too can hardly wait to take my son with me, and a friend of mine just took his son last friday on a hog hunt and took a a nice 250# pig. Both Dad and son were excited.

Having a son in the Marine Corps with the 15th MEU that is currently engaged as we speak with enemy fire in Umm Qasr, Iraq, makes me cherish the times we have spent together fishing etc. I promised him a Hog Hunt upon his safe return home but one little glitch...he does not have a hunting license for big game. He is an Expert with the M-16, the SAW light machine gun and the .50 cal maching gun but cannot hunt until he takes the safety hunting course. Ironic, isn't it? I doubt we will get that hunt soon after his return home as the last thing he wants to do is attend a week long class on how to safely handle fire arms any time soon. He can kill the enemy, but the hogs will have to wait I suppose. God Bless the troops of the United States armed forces. God &$#% Saddam Hussein.

Hey,,,tnctcb...neither of these two father/son teams took a hog that weekend. Hogs were seen by the father/son team on the right,,,and they were able to witness a bobcat being taken by a hunter hunting with them.

The hunter told me that he held off on the bobcat as long as he could,,,so Sean (the son) could take the shot,,

But Sean wasn't able to find the bobcat in his scope. Sean was a little embarrassed about being able to see the bobcat just fine BEFORE he shouldered his rifle,,but AFTER he looked thru the scope, he couldn't find the animal...

The hunter realized what was happening,,(with all the mutterin' going on,,,lol,,),,,and pulled the trigger on the bobcat just as he was moving into the bushes...

I told Sean that same thing (losing an animal in the scope) has happened to bout all of us in the past,,,and that it still happens to experienced hunters more that some like to admit,,lol,,.

So Sean and i discussed some techniques he could use, so that wouldn't happen in the future. He seemed real interested and realized that he'd had him a good bobcat kill on his first hunt out,,,if he'd only been able to get the crosshairs on him.

The father/with the two sons team on the left were skunked that weekend. They sure did hunt hard though,,,and the boys got some good lessons about what huntin' is all about.

Yep,,lots of time when you go out,,,there's stuff to see all over the place,,,sometimes u don't see jack!,,,lol,,,

Sure was a fun weekend!,,,

Oljim. Thank you for you kind words...his name is Ryan and he is 20 years old. He is a Corporal serving as a crew chief on a CH-53E helicopter carrying special ops. I do wish they would just give him a damn hunting license, though. I really do want to take him hog hunting but we never got around to getting him a hunting license as I myself never really got into hunting until the last 3 years or so. We did a lot of fishing together and will do more when he gets home.

Hey Tusker,,,i know u are proud of Ryan. We are all wishing and praying for his safe trip home,,after the job gets done overseas,,,

He'll be remembered in my prayers tonite,,

After what he's going thru over there,,,seems like there could be some special provision made for hunting licenses for military personnel.

Here in Texas, i haven't seen any special provision for that,,,buy i believe there oughta be some though,,

I know you're gonna be glad when he comes back home so the both of you can go on those outdoors trips i know u both want,,,

Hey,,keep us posted on how it's going for him. How often do u expect to be hearing from him? With all the stuff going on,,i know it must be tough to get things back home,,
