wmidbrook, you can shoot anywhere in the Los Padres national forest, which is about 20 min on the other side of the freeway from tejon. We go out there all the time. Just make sure you are 100yrds from the road and any dwellings, and of course all other laws.

Reddog5, I was thinking of either moteling it or camping down that way Thursday night before the hunt. And then getting up at the crack of dawn to make sure my rifle is still shootin' straight before being @ the ranch to check in @ 10 a.m. Any forest service roads you recommend closest to the ranch check in place?

No clue where to be for checkin proceedures and such. Do they let you set up camp before hitting the hills @ 10?

You'll check in at the ranch office, just off the east side of the freeway in Lebec. I can't remember which exit number/name it is. Anybody? They'll have a list of the signed-up members. At check-in, you'll get your pig tag back with a Tejon stamp on it, along with some permission forms for being on the property. It's pretty painless, and doesn't take long at all. This is also the time to pick up that Tejon map, if you want it.

Once you check in, they'll send you over to the Lebec fire station to get your fire certificate. The guy will come out, touch your tailpipe with a rag, and I guess if he doesn't go up in flames, you pass.

The gates are supposed to "officially" open at noon, but I think they let lots of people in early last time I was there. Most folks set up camp first, but it's really up to you. Midday isn't the best time to be spotting hogs, especially on a bright, hot day like May promises to bring. Set up camp, relax, and store some energy for Friday evening.

The pigs will still be there.
