Guys- Had a great time this past weekend. My shoulder is still soar from the 12 gauge. The quail and pigs are everywhere up there. After limiting out on quail seeing three groups of pigs was icing on the cake. The last group was more like a herd w/ 30 + pigs.
Saturday morning started off with Young Blood and Pigig quail hunting. Twenty minutes into the hunt and the quail were flushing from the brush in what seemed to be unlimited numbers. None of us expected the quail to keep pouring from the brush, I know personally I reload three times. Six shots and one bird… I’ll take it. The action was hot the remainder of the day. We all limited out. Man what a hoot.

On Sunday I dropped Troy off and started slow hunting. I was walking a 10 foot wide cut in some brush, huffing and puffing and made it to a flat area. I glanced behind me to see how far I had traveled when I heard a grunt. Immediately turning around I saw a 70 lb pig crossing the cut about 15 feet in front of me. Just before he made it to the other side I gave a whistle and he stopped half way in the brush exposing only his rear. I came to full draw. With no shot available I stayed at full draw for the next one. I remained like this for what felt like an eternity but it was probably only a minute. I let off the draw and took 5 steps sideways in an attempt to hide my silhouette. Out busts another 70 #er. I couldn’t draw on him fast enough. I stood there for another ½ hour but no other pigs came out.

Later that day Chopper got Young Blood and I onto a group of 6 rooting. We snuck up on them, my heart was racing. Young Blood let one fly at the closest pig to him. The pig swung out in front of me, I shot clear above him. Luckily the pigs were confused and Troy let a finishing shot go.

Later that evening Pigig took me to a spot where he had seen several rooting that morning. Just minutes in the area and a real nice fork and horn showed himself, grazing lazily. Just before sundown a herd, I mean herd came through but the lead pig was spooked and they bolted. Man what a day. I can’t wait to get back out there.

Troy and Bubba, congrads on the pigs. Bubba as usual the food was excellent; thank you for cooking it up. Chopper thanks for putting up with us. Chris and Franklin good seeing you guys. Brian good to meet you, thanks for the bomb lamb stew. All, I look forward to the next time we can meet up at Choppers ranch. I know Young Blood is checking this site every minute or so for pictures so please excuse the crappy photos.

PS- I have poison oak every where…
