Thursday Morning finally, Bubble and I rolling down the highway, next stop Piggy Pines, Ca
Now I had reviewed this area using my topo and it looked manageable in places, there was a wide clear path about 150 to 200 foot rise in elevation, Now bubble all the up to this is asking are you sure you are good for 5 to 6 mile Hike, Ya no problem just I’ll be going slow figured I would get up the 200 feet relax on top and we would run the ridges to where we would camp, WRONG!!
Bubble gets out and points to this Oak tree two/ three hills away, that’s where we are going to end up,
Looking around I* ask How are we there from over there? Theres no ridges just canyon hi8ll, deeper canyon higher hill and then a way higher hill excuse me “Mountain” That’s like a 1000 foot elevation from here I exclaimed, Bubble ya I wondered how you came up with a couple hundred feet OH well Ready? WELCOME to Gary’s BOOT Hunt. Still thinking theres has to be a ridge somewhere in the mess of mountains we drop off the edge, 69 some odd feet down this long grassy hill side into the canyon.
Now I bet many of you did not know Bubble is also a magician, ah yes he is cause once we hit that trai he disappeared up and over the first hill, Not concerned because Gary did tell that the only way to get lost was to fall off of the edge, YA right aint going to work Gary I thought to my self. So off I go 53 pounds of crap on my back and still haven’t figured out when we do get this pig where we going to put it, I mean both our packs are stuffed, but I keep tredging on up and over the first hill, hum not in as bad shape as I thought up the second hill huffing a bit but stopping every 50 or so feet to suck some water and air I’m still not doing to bad If fact I go this I though.
I get to the top of the second and my enthusiasm crumbles Theres Bubble heading up the third and final Mountain a winding super steep Goat path snarled with thick brush Heart attack waiting to happen trail, Buble looks over at me and waves and yells to me Hey you are doing pretty good, I’ll see you on the top and off he goes disappearing into the thicket of brush. Shit damn I puffed where s the freaking ridge Damn Gary did I piss you off are you really just trying to kill me here? To far gone now got to keep going I tell my self and hey you have done ok so far, just keep your pace don’t even try to keep up with that Gary Goat, Taking a deep breath here I go head down into another canyon just so I can climb another hill (nope mountain) Now all the way up this mountain I ‘m huffing an now seriously puffing try to figure out what I did to piss Bubble, but then was in amazement at this mans Endurance and strength.
Half way up here comes the brush, it’s a long tunnel of brush, hey I didn’t bubble say he was going to trim this shit, and HEY wasn’t he going to loan me some Hiking sticks? No dought about it he is tryinh to kill me!! On my hands and knees most the time I work my way threw this mess and finally get out on the other side and shit shit where the trail? No it cant be this 6 inch wide slanted down hill mud way, but there are Gary goats boot tracks, OK so he wasn’t messing with the only way to get lost was over the edge. Jesus H Christ I sat there for 5 maybe 10 minutes really contemplating the whole thing. But thers the oak just over this little rise, Hot Damn Ive done it I just need to not fall off the edge, Now about ¾ across a foot slips and I think this is it here I go and stick my hand out and hey something to hold me up!! Yes baby I got it now I look to see what I had my hand on it was the side of the mountain it had gotten so steep the the side of the mountain was damn near parallel to me.
Now my knees are shaking uncontrollably Calves are jumping, my back is now starting ti twitch with small spasms I look up at the oak and think please lord just a little here, I’m not ready to come home and I not going to quite. (Now I bet you all didn’t know that Bubble has a direct line to the man upstairs) Just as I muster the energy to get back on my feet here comes the Goat down the path. Use a little assistance there, and YES I did I let Bubble carry my pack that last bit to the oak tree.
To be continued
