Always look out for the guy that offers to take his boat hunting, then shows up w/ 3(THREE) motors in it......hell, i thought we'd hook all 3 up and zoom around that lake. We did, the first one died, the second one died, luckily the trolling motor worked....thought i was gonna be rowing! LD swears the motors are fixed now.

Hey guys when is the JHO'S hunt I know Im the new guy on the block and just learning but I cant harvest anything inless Im in the field hunting. Can the F N G tag along? I take it that a boat is needed to do this hunt or can it be hunted with- out getting to the other side? If a boat is a must I would like to know if the marina rents boats for this reason? Any insite on this would help alot thanks.

I don't believe there are boat rentals in the winter, but I could be wrong... Google "Lake Sonoma Marina" and check with them.

Boats simply speed up access (a lot) to the hunt areas. 80+% of the area open to hunting can be accessed without a boat; HOWEVER, about 50% of the 80% will get you into areas that you will not want to extricate a pig from, unless the drag is downhill to the water and a boat... keep that in mind if you walk-in.

For what it's worth, I've hunted both walk-in and with a boat, and I've seen about the same number of pigs regardless of my main mode of transportation.

Additionally, the days I did use a boat, I hiked and climbed no less than the days I didn't have a boat. This isn't boat-up and shoot pigs... ya gotta work for them, hard, but if you can hike steep, loose terrain, in mud, and poisen oak, all day, then you've found the right hunt!

FYI, I am not hunting the first weekend of November at Lake Sonoma (I'll be trying to fill my second AO tag in D-5 that weekend). I am planning to hunt Lake Sonoma the following weekend, which is Saturday the 12th. These hunts wear me out too much to do back-to-bac Sat & Sun, so I'm gonna be a puss and just hunt hard one day.

Reading this thread makes it sound tempting! BC put it together and I'll make it up there for the 12th of Nov. My buddy is on the deer hunt right now. Is the Oct pig hunt only during the week? I'm sure it's here somewhere, just too impatient to find it. Ed F

Ah crud, looks like there is only turkey hunting the 2nd and 3rd weekends of November... I guess that means I won't be hitting Lake Sonoma until the 26th and 27th (Thanksgiving weekend).

I guess that's Ok with me though because I'm still a little tweaked in the neck/back from getting rear ended by that stoner and still haven't shot my bow since then (August 25th).

Who's up for the last weekend in November?

Hey Backcountry,
Just a heads up, I don't think i'd be hunting D5 in November if I were you, it closes on 10/30.

Me and my buddies are still kicking some dates around on when to go, once you guys get a set date, i'll see if it works for us and we'll try to be there.

Whoops... thanks Mel... I'm not sure how I got those dates wrong, but sure enough that's what somehow got entered into my planner. I guess I need to alter my plans a bit if I intend to get another weekend of deer huting in.

I just talked to my buddy that finished his first weekend of the Lake Sonoma deer hunt. He said that it was awsome even though he didn't fill his tag yet. He said that he passed up several bucks and found a 120" 3x4 that he's hoping to take next weekend. Oh yeah, he mentioned seeing at least 200 hogs!!! I see a Lake Sonoma pig hunt in my future!!

October!! I've been home for a week, I need to get out. These dates conflict with the rut down here but I have a good feeling about filling one of my tags this thursday

Opps, my bad, sorry Ed. I'd love to make it but I think I am stuck with weekends only for the next little while.

I was at the lake this past weekend hunting deer. It is true the pigs are there. Saw pigs every day there and would of had one no problem (shots less than 20yds) if I could have hunted them. I'll be up there again in 2 weeks to stick a deer and will probably stay a couple extra days to hunt pigs. If ya'll go save me a couple hogs and dont run all the deer off
