My nephew is out duckhunting this morning and saw this pig out in the Santa Ana River bottom. Too bad you can't go out there and kill them. What a waste of pork.

There's also deer down there I've seen tracks. I have looked at every way possible to go hunt down there. There is no way to do it legally. I am really tempted to do it anyway but the last thing I want is to get busted. Especially because it's federal land down there near the damn. So it would be a little more than a slap on the wrist and telling me to not do it again

I have sent letters out to the private land owners along the river bed and have never even got a response, I even hit up the golf course about a archer only pack in pack out no trace hunts to rid them of those destructive pigs and still no reply.
City, county, fed, its like a Black hole when it comes to hunting anything in the river bed, the last time I can remember was when the pigs started rooting up Forest awn that they had a special hunt, and that was Archery two weekend 10 Archers per weekend. I was on the stand by list, but never got called. It can be done it just has to have a big Money entity to push it, you, I or Us do not have the political pull to get them to even reply.

A thread like this comes up every couple of years. Yes, there's pigs down there (lots of them), but, NO, you can't hunt them. I would certainly get in line if they ever offered any kind of a hunt, but this is CA. and that's not likely to happen - ever. The only thing that can make it even more frustrating, is when the government gets around to hiring professional trappers to go in and get rid of some - that's gonna really piss me off (like San Diego).

About San Diego? I haven't heard a thing about how many pigs were taken by professional trappers. Did they ever close sections of the national forest for Aerial eradication? Would love to get a price per pig average on what was spent of my tax dollars.

I requested a new data sheet on wild pig populations in San Diego and was told the last one done was 2010 before the eradication plan went into effect , but was told it had been very effective and the pig population now was to small to survey.

I say that is political speak for $150,000 Per feral swine eradicated.

so crazy. I think I read some were on here about a place up north doing the same crap. Pay big bucks for sum guys that are pros. That's just silly to me. Let sum pro hunters get on them.

What it will take... is a pig getting bold and attacking a human. (It does happen)

That event would open them up to liability $$$.

As hunters we could then learn a lesson from our politico nemesis and jump on the reactionary band-wagon and utilize the fact that we've documented asking them for access to hunt... which would take away their ability to claim they've been proactive in managing that threat. At the very least we could probably get current persons in power relieved of duty by calling attention to their negligence in this matter, especially when it costs the county in payout$$$
