I have been working in San Ramon for about 4 years now I always wondered if there were pigs in hills because I have never seen any. Recently moved out to the Tracy area so I usually take the back roads home through livermore. I always see turkeys, yotes, and deer on my drives to and from work. Yesterday I my way home I saw a large black animal on the side of the road off Camino Tassajara in SR. As I passed it I blurted out to my girlfriend thats a pig, I turned around to take a closer look at it. Must have been there maybe a day and took a pretty good shot from a car. It was sow had to be at least 180, 200lbs.

Just thought I would share the story because I was very happy to read about Lake Sonoma and seeing a pig on the way home even though it was dead got me more amped about going up to the Lake.

cheers.

They would come right into town when I was working in Pleasant Hill a little while back... probably dropping off of Mt Diablo or somewhere. Had rooting in the landscaping at the back of the building I was working in.

I'm getting fired up to hunt some hogs myself...

Sidepass,

I saw some in Garin park in Hayward this past spring, but I think the trappers get on 'em pretty quick when they show up there. My guess is any that show up in Chabot or Redwood will get the same treatment. They won't be there long. Los Trampas is more of wilderness area, so I could see them taking off there. I'm actually surprised you haven't seen any (or any sign) already.

By the way, I know I've said this before, but we need to get together and ride sometime. We're pretty much neighbors.

I've also seen them in Sunol, and seen sign up on Pleasanton Ridge, so they can't be far from San Ramon.

My bro-in-law has seen them at the landfill in Los Gatos off Camden a stone's throw from residential neighborhood just 2 minutes from his suburban home off Blossom Hill Road.

I've heard of pigs running around destroying expensive landscaping in Blackhawk. Wouldn't doubt if there are some running around these hills. Tons of turkeys.

All these hills there are full of porkers. However, don't get too excited. The pigs will fall to depredation and trapping. If you are lucky, you may know a landowner that lets you do the dirty work after he puts in for a depredation permit. (See below). Otherwise the county will do it and throw the meat in the trash. It's a shame!

George,

You just killed my pet.

Nice trad bow and the progression from rifle, archery and now trad hunting methods.

Congratulations for the harvest and access to such property!

FA,

Doesn't it look cute? I never had a bow with training wheels, actually. I tried different stuff at the store and decided to go trad from the get go. This was in April this year. The pigs moved out soon after getting pressure. Also, the pastures dried up and they probably would have left anyway, but let's not tell that to the land owner! ;)

Dang, my memory is failing me. I just seemed to recall (or imagined) that your last hog harvest was with a compound.

What's the poundage on your trad?

Any stories about "Killing Petunia"?

But I admire your courage. With so much ribbing and slamin' going on around here that you did not even try to prop up the hog's floppy ears (sorry can't help myself

55 lbs Fred Bear Montana Long bow.

Shot it in an open pasture with me hiding behind a small bush after a short stalk. It was a close shot once it turned, as it continued to feed on high grass right towards me with the strong wind in my face. It did not fail to charge me in the dark, when I had to track it in the brush to finish it off. It's a real trophy to me, it's not easy to kill something with 10000 year old technology.

I am looking forward to my archery deer hunt. At least those things don't fight back.
