I'd say a Jeep would be the best bet. Big trucks, like mine, and yours, and yours, are bad news up there when it's wet.

Brian: Do you still have your Bronco? That would be perfect, and worth taking.

My recommendation is to put in chains on all 4 tires as soon as you hit the muddy roads.

It ain't pretty slipping sideways on a ravine. Or losing traction and control going downhill.

Blessing in disguise Barbara told me this event is fully booked. Otherwise, I'll compromise my new 4runner even with recent practice run in the back woods of Big Bear. Easy out there but Tejon looks like a different animal altogether after that weekend snow.

Getting off the hills is easy, good old gravity helps with that, just staying on the roads and avoiding them thar trees that is hard, but a dent free truck is overrated, Maybe if I get stuck on top they wouldn't mind me extending my POR.

Chains came in today, now hopefully the weather is only minimal and I will poke a hole in a porker

I learned first hand how bad those roads can get with just a little moisture. I stuck my truck in the mud last POR and it didn't even rain. The roads got wet from the heavy fog and that was enough to make some hills slick as snot. I seen two different trucks with smashed fenders from uncontrolled sliding in the mud. Getting stuck and not having the properly equipped vehicle probably cost my brother his hog that Sunday. We wont make that mistake again.

Have fun and be safe.

Chris, I have noticed your recent tendency to hike in from the bottom rather than riding to the top with me the last couple trips.

If I remember correctly, that little incident in the mud was due in some part (in my little brain) to a lack of Red Bull, which I had left in camp instead of packing it in the truck. Heck, if I'd remembered my Red Bull and some lunch, we wouldn't have been coming down that hill in the first place.

My dad (Sully) and I went out to Tejon yesterday for some varmint shooting. We went in the Lebec entrance. Saw a nice hog on the way out at about 6:30. Pig was probably about 175, and all alone. We dang near hit it with the car

Good Luck, try to stay dry, haha

I think every hunter that's been to Tejon has a story about the roads wet or dry

Looks like you got schooled...do you think chains would of helped? Do they really work with mud??? I may need some one day.

MJB,

I suppose I got "schooled". I know I got scared... to say nothing of my poor passenger.

Chains may have helped, but with that big diesel and that long wheel base, well.. the fact is I shouldn't have tried to navigate that road in the first place.

Chains do help a lot in the mud, although they play hell on the road. Definitely worth having a set. I didn't have any then, but I have since bought a full set.
