I mentioned in an earlier post that the principal of Innovations Public Charter School, Mrs. Woerner, contacted me about problem pigs that are tearing up her campus. I met with her Thursday afternoon, and yes, there are pig tracks and rootings everywhere, and some real whoppers, judging from the tracks. They are seen most often at about 5:30 PM and then again within an hour of sunrise. She gave me the key to the gate and told me to have at it. She mentioned that they were having a board meeting that evening so I shouldn't start hunting until Friday. She also showed me the exit road where pigs run from one side to the other, both sides heavily vegetated with Guinea or "elephant" grass, the stuff that is 7 feet tall and really thick. I found lots of bristles on the barb wire that encloses the north part of the grass.

Anyway, I get a call today. Mrs. Woerner was leaving the board meeting at 10 PM and drove down the exit road. A huge boar burst from the grass to her right and slammed into the side of her car. It scared the hell out of her. She continued down the road and didn't get out of the car until she was home. Wise woman. I guess the only damage was a dent on the side of her car. I doubt if the pig even has a headache. It was an unintentional collision, I'm sure.

I would say that the school has a pig problem. Will pack up the crossbow and see what happens.

Aloha for now.

That darn pig deserves to be the guest of honor at a lu all (sp?) with plenty of pineapples on top of him and a bunch of pretty Hawiian gals dancing about with plenty of bottles of cold pale ale and or India pale ales.
That will teach him a lesson he soon won't forget!

Just returned from the school. Right at dark, when it was really too dark to see, a large boar ambled out from the guinea grass and stood in the roadway. I took a shot with my crossbow. The boar jumped and then ran into the grass. It appeared that my arrow hit high and passed thru the pig. I saw sparks where the arrow contacted the blacktop just beyond the boar. I got in my truck and headed down the exit road. 3 or 4 sows walked out and stood in the road. One sow had 8 piglets of about 10 pounds. Then I saw what appeared to be mongooses running around. I counted about 12 more piglets, the largest maybe 2 pounds soaking wet. Watched them in the headlights and then headed home.

Will try again tomorrow.

You guys are killing me! Us poor Cal guys have to either pay a guide a lot or burn a lot of gas to hunt public lands and if we live far say a couple of hundred miles it ends up being cheaper to use a pro guide. Dogtrader I don't know how far say Chigaco is from Jamestown but if you became a licensed Tenn hunting guide ( I don't know if Tenn even has such a classification) that might not be a bad part-time gig I know quality deer hunts in Ill aren't cheap so Chigaco based hunters might pay well for a pig hunt especially because tenn boars are closer to the pure strain Prussian boars then we have out here in the west.
