Pretty cool pig roast setup. I have a firepit similar to this, but not quite as big. I'm hoping to get one like this operational sometime soon.

Here are some details:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
i scraped it with help from my wife and a buddy while five others stood around and drank.

it didn't spin because we have forks at each end, but we also trussed the hog. This is where i fell short because you are supposed to go in one side of the back bone around your spit and back out the other and tie. butcher's twine works fine. i didn't do the backbone part and it flopped around too much. you also sew up the belly and next time i am stuffing with cabbage, rice, potato, onion, carrots, etc. before sewing up the bottom. We are also going to exit between the nose and eyes with the spit to better balance the beast, then we can stuff and apple in the mouth. Also, the internal temps don't lie. Everyone was hungry and wanted to take it off early, no way. you have to be patient.

the motor came from grainger's and has a gearbox on it that turns 6 rpm. i had a bigger gear to make it turn about 2 with the chain but the sprockets didn't match so had to change. it turns about 4 1/2 times a minute[/b]

Don't know about the banjo but the outhouse is back between the trees. And why is the elevated shooters box set up to shoot at the fire pit?

Each year growing up we'd go to this bbq/pig roast at a family friends house. They'd always have a live band jamming, horse shoes, darts, etc....and of course a huge open fire pit with a huge sow turning above. Always a good time. They moved away before I got to drinking age unfortunately

I remember one year going back out behind the barn with some of the other kids to check the 50gal drum under the tractor they use to string it up and slaughter it.....lets just say a drum full of guts sitting in the sun all day can do wonders to loosen a kids stomach contents

I used to work for a Pillowblock Bearing company that made one's like in the picture. I use them on my spit also, alon with some cam followers. Mine is enclosed tho'

This is a lamb and 20# of inside round of beef I did in July. Did a whole deer once that a CO had confiscated and gave to a buddy of mine.
